Abu Dhabi’s cruise tourism credentials set for major boost with arrival of MSC Lirica at Mina Zayed


Abu Dhabi 29th October 2011 - The 59,000 ton luxury cruise liner MSC Lirica is due in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed tonight. She is the first cruise liner to home port in Abu Dhabi, and she will embark on 19, eight day/seven night cruises around the Arabian Gulf in the 2011/2012 cruise season. 

The cruise liner will arrive to a red carpet welcome Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Abu Dhabi Terminals and Abu Dhabi Ports Company, which will include a spectacular fireworks display and heritage entertainment laid on in the new Mina Zayed cruise terminal, including henna, calligraphy and falconry displays as well as traditional dance performances. 

The arrival of MSC Lirica, which can accommodate 2,199 guests in 784 cabins, will begin her inaugural ‘Abu Dhabi & The Emirates’ cruise on Monday, 31st October 2011 for a journey to Muscat and Khasab in Oman, Fujairah and Dubai in the UAE before returning ‘home’ to Abu Dhabi. 

ADT also looks forward to welcoming Costa Cruises, AIDA and Royal Caribbean back to our Mina Zayed facility here in Abu Dhabi. Jointly the lines will bring around 170,000 tourists to the UAE capital before the 2011/2012 season ends next April.


Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) currently manages and operates the three leading ports in Abu Dhabi: Mina Zayed, the main gateway for cargo in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi; Mina Freeport that caters for smaller vessels, tugs and barges; and Mina Musaffah located in the heart of the industrial area. The diversified portfolio of services includes a dedicated Container Terminal, Container Freight Station, Warehousing, Cold Store and a General Cargo Terminal that is widely regarded as the market leader in the region. ADT will also manage and operate Khalifa Port when it opens in the 4th quarter of 2012.
