ABU DHABI TERMINALS: TRADE MOVES WITH US

Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) was established in 2006 by Emiri Decree No. (6), as part of the restructuring of the commercial ports sector in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi.

ADT secured the exclusive rights in 2012 by signing a 30-year concession agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports to operate and manage a container terminal at Khalifa Port. ADT owns and operates, the Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT), the region’s first semi-automated and most technologically advanced container terminal at Khalifa Port. KPCT was officially inaugurated for commercial operations on 12/12/12.

OUR HISTORY

A STORY OF CONTINUITY AND
TRANSFORMATION

THE STORY OF TRADE IN ABU DHABI DATES BACK 6,000 YEARS

The modern container terminal you see today owes much to technological advancements in the world of seaports, but importantly it represents the culmination of Abu Dhabi’s history as a centre for regional trade. The port is very much a tangible legacy of the region’s seafarers – the traders, the shermen and navigators who helped Abu Dhabi thrive. For over 6000 years Abu Dhabi has had extensive trade connections. From ancient links to India and Mesopotamia, to the opening of Mina Zayed in 1972, the arrival of the first containership in 1982, and the completion of the first phase of the Khalifa Port Container Terminal in 2012; trade has beat a constant rhythm throughout the development of Abu Dhabi. Khalifa Port Container Terminal proudly continues this tradition of transformation on a global scale.
